Mother's Day Gift Ideas

29 April 2013

Dear Husband of Mine,  Father of My Adorable Little Boy...

FYI: Mother's Day is approaching.
Also, FYI: Reid is too young to buy me a gift, this duty falls upon you.

Thanks,
Your Awesome, Perfect Wife

So last year, I sent Neil a link to this Necklace on Etsy.  Mother's Day gift complete.

I love it.  I wear it most days.  Reid's initial and his birthstone.  Perfect Gift!
Personalized Calla Lily Necklace with Red Glass, Custom Initial Necklace, Bridesmaid Jewelry

This year, I need a camera strap.  Like need.  Will be ordering one if Neil doesn't.  Somehow, I lost the strap (and the replacement - that I did not like).

I like that both of these can be used to wear my camera around my neck or over one shoulder... Perfect for chasing after a toddler.

I am always in need for a new bag.  Love the color of this one.  It is large enough to carry my stuff and snacks and supplies for Reid.

I love this headband (it comes in adult sizes too).  (No, we do not have a little girl.  I want this for me.  Maybe a different color)

Super Simple Spring Wreath

23 April 2013

I jumped on the spring bandwagon recently and decided to get a little crafty...
Enter the Simple, $5, Spring Wreath

I bought this wreath a while back for $3 at Joann's.  After a quick trip to the dollar store, I had two backs of spring flowers for only $2.
The next part was attaching the flowers.  I took the super simple approach of shoving the wire stems through the wreath and wrapping.
Overall it took me maybe 5 minutes (really it was like 15 minutes with distractions from the husband and baby)...

Book Review: Home Front

12 April 2013

A while back I finished Home Front: A Novel by Kristin Hannah.  According to goodreads" All marriages have a breaking point. All families have wounds. All wars have a cost. . . .

Like many couples, Michael and Jolene Zarkades have to face the pressures of everyday life--children, careers, bills, chores--even as their twelve-year marriage is falling apart. Then an unexpected deployment sends Jolene deep into harm’s way and leaves defense attorney Michael at home, unaccustomed to being a single parent to their two girls. As a mother, it agonizes Jolene to leave her family, but as a solider she has always understood the true meaning of duty. In her letters home, she paints a rose-colored version of her life on the front lines, shielding her family from the truth. But war will change Jolene in ways that none of them could have foreseen. When tragedy strikes, Michael must face his darkest fear and fight a battle of his own--for everything that matters to his family.

At once a profoundly honest look at modern marriage and a dramatic exploration of the toll war takes on an ordinary American family, Home Front: A Novel  is a story of love, loss, heroism, honor, and ultimately, hope."

I really enjoy Kristin Hannah as an author.  As a mother this book had me thinking (and worrying and crying at points).  Definitely gets my recommendations.

Oh, The Places I Have Pumped

08 April 2013

It's been a while since we chatted about my boobs... So here we go again.

Now that I am done pumping, lets recap all the fun and exciting places that me and I breast pump have got intimate together.

 So without further ado...
  1. Home - Our first night home I broke out the pump around 1am.  It was a rough night.
  2. Work - After coming back to work I started pumping 3 times a day in the conference room.  Then I dropped done to 2 for a few months.  Then one pump for a week or two.  Now I am done pumping through the day.
  3. The Car - I have pumped in the car on the way back and forth to NY so many times it is ridiculous.  When Reid was little(r) I would feed him a bottle when he woke and then pump.  I also have pumped in the car while driving back and forth to NY, while driving back and forth from running errands on my lunch break.
  4. Hotel Rooms - When Neil & I went away overnight in September I pumped in our hotel room, when I traveled in December, January, February and March for work, I pumped in the hotel room.
  5. The Bathroom at a Black Tie Wedding - That was fun.  Not.  Actually, it was a really nice Country Club and I found a bathroom away from the hoopla and pumped.
  6. The Bathroom at a Casino - I was there for a work conference.  It was a nice bathroom.
  7. The Pancake House - While waitressing at the Pancake House during March & April, I would quickly make a little room for myself in the kitchen and pump.
  8. My Parents House - We were there a lot when Reid was just born.
  9. Hospital - I pumped in the ER room before we were admitted with Reid and in the lactation room when Reid was hospitalized for the Auto Immune Neutropenia.  I also pumped in a different hospital bathroom when I was there a work conference.
  10. Lactation Room at the Airport - I feel like these should be in every single airport.  Heaven! A full door that locked, a rocking chair and a sink.  So nice.

Craft: Pompom Wreath

04 April 2013

Supplies:
Styrofoam wreath $3.99
Pompoms $ 1/bag - I used 1/3 of 15 bags.
So at first I was going to make this with red, blue and yellow pompoms.  So I painted the wreath yellow.
But when I laid out the pompoms, I did not like the colors.
So I changed to red and blue only..
The next step was time consuming... I hot glued pompoms onto the wreath... Covering everything.
Not hard, just time consuming.
A quick string at the top and it was ready to go.
Even festive from inside.

Been crafting anything fun recently?
